What Goes Around
Comes Around!
In August of 2000, Society President Brian Bigler, received a call from Mount Horeb Antiques shop owner, Judy Plambeck. In an excited voice Judy extolled that she believed that she had "purchased some photos at a McFarland garage sale that might be of interest to the Mount Horeb Area Historical Society." Within minutes of her call President Bigler was reacquainted with a past Historical Society friend, Harold Peterson. Judy had purchased Harold and Valeria Peterson's wedding picture, and other Peterson family photos.
Harold and Valeria Peterson were active Society members during the organization's founding years. Harold was always there with his faded blue pickup truck when there were artifacts to be hauled and was anxious to help clean the newly acquired gifts. Both Harold and Valeria were avid attendees at Society events. Harold loved the Society so much that upon his death he bequeathed a percentage of his estate to the organization. This generous gift was used for the down payment of the new Mount Horeb Area Museum. So it is with great honor and coincidence, during this 25th year, that the Society now has a photo of Harold and Valeria in its Archives.
Stories with happy endings, like this one, would not be possible if it were not for Judy Plambeck's foresight in asking the sellers of the photographs who the individuals in them were. The Historical Society is fortunate to have allies like Judy among the owners of Mount Horeb's antiques shops who throughout the past 25 years have generously offered countless items to the Society. By the way, Judy, who owns Main Street Antiques, paid 50 cents each for the images which the Society was happy to repay her for.
