Rysers Of Wisconsin
Adolph and Werner Riser were cheesemakers in the Lead Mine Cheese Factory at Blue Mounds in the 1920's. In 1927, in Chicago, they started distribution routes for cheese products. Joined in the 1930's by their brothers Frank and Max. they established a distribution firm, Risers of Chicago, to vend cheese and specialty gourmet and frozen foods in Illinois and southern Wisconsin.
In The Mt. Horeb Co-operatuive Creamery which they purchased in 1945, they concentrated on Swiss cheese production., To further their business enterprises, they purchased the Hanley building at 209 East Main and remodeled the front front to simulate a Swiss chalet. The cheese and gift shop became their first actual retail outlet. In 1979 , the firm, then Risers of Wisconsin, bought the Henze properties on South Second Street, The building on the west side was used for packaging and cold storage and the warehouse was on the east side was all cold storage.
